What were you looking to achieve from your shoot with us?
We hadn’t had any proper photos together as a family since the children (twins) were born. They are at a really fun age now, so we hoped that would be captured before they got older and moodier!
Tell us about your family
We met at uni and have been married for 15 years. Our twins, Isla and Brandon, are 5 years old. They are very close but have very different personalities! We are big fans of music in general, but particularly rock and metal, and we all enjoy being silly together!
Had you ever done anything like this before?
Not since our newborn photos in hospital, which was a very different experience!
Why did you think that Bartley Studios would be right for you?
We loved the unique images that brought out the subjects’ personalities. It’s great that you encourage props and avoid forced poses as much as possible for a much more natural and personal result.
What props and personal items did you bring and why?
We brought musical props and band t-shirts to reflect our interests and hopefully make our shoot unique…and we loved the way they were used and the resulting images!
We also brought my Brownie leader uniform and Isla’s Rainbow uniform. I have been a leader for 20 years, and Isla has just started her Guiding journey, so I thought it would be a nice way to show how we are continuing a “family tradition”.
How did your photographer use your items to suit a style?
We really loved the way that our music items were used in black and white shots, we felt like real rock stars!
Were you worried about any parts of the session beforehand and if so what?
We were a little nervous about looking natural as we are not especially fond of the camera, but the shoot was so relaxed and fun and we all really enjoyed it. I also took loads of outfits along as I didn’t know what would look right, but we had plenty of help on the day in choosing the right combinations!
Tell us about the favourite parts of your experience and why you enjoyed them
The whole experience was so much fun, but especially the moody rock band shots!
What advice do you have for other clients coming for a shoot with us?
Take something unique to you, relax and have fun!
What was your favourite image overall?
We love our black and white “album cover” shot, but all of the images were perfect!
